What a difference a year makes!
The first cohort of year 11 students at Manchester Health Academy are celebrating outstanding success in their recent GCSE examinations.
41% of the Academy’s Year 11 group of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE, including English and Maths with an overall 72% of students gaining 5A*-C.
The Principal, Barry Burke, said “I am delighted with the achievement of all our students who have benefited from the Academy’s drive for excellence. They have not only achieved their personal best, but have also exceeded the very challenging targets set by the Academy in our first year.”
This excellent performance comes as the staff and students prepare to move into their new £20m state of the art building on Moor Road. This investment in West Wythenshawe will support the development of a curriculum which will lead to even greater success. Students who succeed with their GCSEs will benefit from the opportunity to access the Health Academy’s Sixth Form, specialising in Sport Science and Health related courses at levels 2 and 3.
The main sponsor for the Manchester Health Academy is the Central Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with additional support from the co-sponsors, Manchester College and Manchester City Council. David Cain, Chair of Governors and representative of the main sponsor said, “The Manchester Health Academy is the first Academy nationally to be sponsored by the NHS and has demonstrated how young people can benefit from enhancing their learning through partnership with such an influential employer. This encouraging start will not only benefit the individual young people but will have a positive impact on the wellbeing of their families and the wider community. The Health Academy is also ideally positioned to become a hub for its local community due to its excellent community sports facilities and the new district library.”
The Manchester Health Academy looks forward to opening the doors of its new building to students on the 8th September.
