Motorway and road network
Wythenshawe has motorway (M56/M60) and main network road links to Manchester city centre (seven miles), Warrington, Liverpool, Stockport and Trafford.
The Manchester Airport Relief Road Scheme will provide 10km of dual carriageway on an east-west route from the Manchester Airport and the M56 link road across to the A6 at Hazel Grove, south east of Stockport. The scheme is a partnership of Stockport Council , Manchester City Council, Cheshire East Council and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).
It will provide improved connectivity for key strategic routes into the north west and to Manchester Airport, including traffic from the A6, A523 and A34 – all of which are key routes for business, leisure travel and freight from Cheshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, and beyond.
The route will also incorporate a new segregated pedestrian and cycle route adjacent to the new road providing a new link for the strategic cycle/pedestrian network to improve non-car commuting and leisure use.
